Over 40 million Americans face hunger. The brutal irony is that hunger even happens in the farming communities that grow crops to feed the rest of the country. Among the hungry and food insecure in our country, 12 million of them are children, who can rely on in-school meals on weekdays but lack the same resources over the weekend.
A group of local co-ops in Sioux County, Iowa, is taking action against this problem. Together, they’ve partnered with Nutra Blend and Hunger Free Kids of Sioux County to create a snack pack program, which packages nutritious meals for children that they can prepare for themselves through the weekend.
Through the program, the local co-ops who help grow the food for America are also helping to provide hungry kids their next meal. See the full story below:
